Hello Friends,
Anjali here again, come up with a simple thought “The benefits of learning Music and Dance”
Since childhood we may have had an opportunity to dance or sing in some or the other occasion or at least we enjoyed by just watching the performances, right??
Earlier there was some kind of hesitation to dance and sing but now-a-days everyone wants to be a part of it, they are learning, taking the videos and posting on social media to boost their social presence and they are actually enjoying doing it.
I am a dance teacher and teach Carnatic music as well. Beginners can start learning in my institute because I am teaching from basics both online and offline too.
Let me explain to you what all I am going to teach in Music and Dance separately.
Music
In music I am going to start from Sarali Swaralu and then Janta Swaralu, Alankaralu, Hecchu Sthayi Swaralu, Geetalu, Swara Jathulu, Varnalu, Kritulu.
In this you are going to learn about the Sapta (7) Swaralu (Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni), place of the swara, different speeds, “Adi tala-Kriyas-8” is one of the most used talas in Carnatic music. Total 15 kinds of sets you are going to learn in this. You can just click on Sarali Swaralu to know what those are actually.
After learning Sarali Swaralu, now that you are going to learn Janta Swaralu, janta means two i.e. SS RR GG MM PP DD NN. This swaras also we will sing in Adi talam.
Now it’s time to learn Alankaralu, up to now we have learned only adi talam, now we are going to learn seven different talas.
- Yeka Talam — Kriyas-4
- Rupaka Talam — Kriyas-6
- Triputa Talam — Kriyas-7
- Matya Talam — Kriyas-10
- Dhruva Talam — Kriyas-14
- Jhampe Talam — Kriyas-10
- Ata Talam — Kriyas-14
Specifically there are called “Ata Tala Varnalu” which are little tricky to learn, but once we learn, we really enjoy singing. We also have “Adi Tala Varnalu” which are simpler than Ata Tala Varnalu.
In this we are going to learn upper swaras of the sapta swaras, up to now we learned tara stayi “Sa”, here we will learn tara sthayi “Ri, Ga, Ma” also. After learning “Hecchu Sthayi Swaralu” only we have to proceed to “Geetalu”, otherwise “Geetalu” will become difficult to learn and takes time as well. These are also called “Upper Varisaigal”.
Geetam means “Song”, here you will learn “Swaras’’ as well as “Sahithyam (lyrics)”. Geetam is a simple devotional melody song with the same tempo throughout the song. They often have no sangatis or variations, with each swara taking one syllable of the sahitya. Geetam is sung without repetition from the beginning to end. However, most geetams are concluded by repeating a portion to complete the talam. The theme of the Sahithyam is to praise God.
Varnalu
Varnam means “letter” was likely given to this form of song due to the prevalence of swara in this type of composition. Lyrical content of varnams are commonly either devotional or amrous. Varnams are traditionally rendered in a format that consists of Pallavi, Anupallavi, Muktaayi, Charanam, Chitta Swaram.
Varnams are generally sung in two varieties of talas, Adi Tala (8 beat cycle) and Ata Tala (14 beat cycle). Ata Tala varnams are generally more complicated and advanced.
Kriti
Kriti means “Creation”. Conventional kritis typically contain Pallavi, Anupallavi and Charanam. The charanam’s last line usually contains the composer’s signature also called as mudra, with which the composer leaves their mark.
Apart from the above you are also going to learn Annamacharya Keerthanalu, Thyagaraja Swami Keerthanalu, patriotic songs, light music songs, movie songs and many more. One has to come here to take a dip into the deep ocean of music.
Dance
Coming to the dance part, there are many forms of dances in Indian Classical Dance, but you are going to learn here is dance on a variety of songs to perform in your school annual day celebrations, family get togethers, weddings, sangeet, official parties etc..
For me dance means just play the song and make your body move according to the music. That is what is actually happening in the parties right?? But the thing you have to remember is to dance with grace, with your own body language, which will make you a performer and the same you are going to learn here. When you entertain people with your moves then they will remember for a long time and that moments will become more memorable to you. I am sure you and your family will cherish the moments forever.
Whenever you sing or dance while doing work then people will ask you the reason for your happiness, which means Dance and Music are sign of happiness, then why to search for it when you can actually do it by learning. Anybody can learn and give performance, so you have no reason to say no I can’t. Don’t just pray to god to be happy instead learn music and praise god.
In the beginning we may be in some kind of discomfort, but once you start and try to fulfill the dreams which you want to chase then you will forget everything and enjoy yourself learning and later giving performances.
After learning, kids can give performances in their school annual day celebrations. Recently I have heard the concept of kids with their parent partner(s) performance which has received an immense response.
In the weddings, sangeet and barats every single person will enjoy and those will become treasure to the newly wedded couple.
When an elderly couple gives a performance then that will become one of the sensational in the whole program.
You may feel that I am exaggerating, but once you experience all by yourself you will not say so.
If you are an elder and get a chance to learn with kids, don’t hesitate, just learn. Soon you will realize that you are feeling younger than actually you are. Think about what I said and do come and join us to fly high without wings.
Since March 2020 everything has been changed, because of COVID-19 people are preferring online classes rather than offline. So, I too have changed the way I teach, I have started taking music classes online long back and now dance classes also I am taking online.
